Bison are the largest native grazer of America’s Northern Great Plains and are North America’s largest terrestrial mammal. Bison can weigh up to a whopping 2,000 pounds, reaching a length of up to 12 feet. Despite their mass, they can still hit speeds of 40 miles per hour when running. Male and females are look very similar but have some subtle differences. Females have a smaller head in a oval shape, an arrow forehead. They also have smaller horn bases that are approx. 2” diameter in yearlings and approx. 2–2½ ” diameter in mature females. Males on the other hand have a larger head in a "V" shape, broader forehead and have larger horn bases. Yearling male bases are approx. 2¾” diameter while mature Bulls bases approx. 3½” + diameter.
